STITES CONTINUES PODIUM STREAK AT JOE MARTIN

April 4th,  2019

Tyler Stites led the Aevolo team to success on the opening day of Joe Martin Stage Race, claiming second place in the 113-mile road race, which moved him into the best young rider jersey and second overall on GC.

“We executed well today and rode great as a team,” Stites said. “It was a pretty relaxed day up until the finish. The finishing climb was really explosive and steep but that suited us well. I’m happy with my result and excited for the rest of the week. Tomorrow looks like it will be a day for the sprinters and we have some fast guys who have a good shot to get us another result. Overall I had a lot of fun today and I’m pumped for the rest of the week.”

Team co-director Jono Coulter said the team was attentive all day and performed the team’s plan to a tee.

“Larry (Gervais) covered an early move that got two minutes on the peloton,” Coulter said. “Tyler continues his streak of hot form and used his race craft in the finale to score a well-earned second place.”

Despite tomorrow’s stage looking to be one for the sprinters on paper, the overall 117-mile course will be a demanding one with over 5,400 feet of climbing. The pro men set off at 11:30 a.m. CET.
