WINSTON SALEM CYCLING CLASSIC NEXT FOR AEVOLO SQUAD

May 24th, 2019

After a short break in Aevolo’s racing calendar that saw Michael Hernandez, Alex Hoehn, and Tyler Stites compete in the Amgen Tour of California with the US national team, the squad will reform once again for the Winston Salem Cycling Classic over Memorial Day weekend.

Starting May 25th with an evening USA Crits criterium and culminating that next Monday with the UCI road race, the team is fired up to continue the momentum of the Tour of the Gila success of two top-five finishes with Alex Hoehn and Tyler Stites, who also finished second and third on the final stage on the Gila Monster.

Fresh off a stellar performance at Amgen Tour of California, Stites is returning to the start line in Winston Salem to compete in one his “most favorite races of the year.”

“It will be interesting to see how I ride at Winston Salem since I have rested a lot since Tour of California, especially knowing there is only a day between Winston Salem and the start of Cascade,” Stites said. “We have brought a solid team to Winston Salem and will be looking to race hard. The heat is always a big factor at Winston Salem, and this year, it will be extra warm, so keeping cool and staying hydrated with GU drink mix will be key.”

Also returning is Lance Haidet, who finished 22nd in the 2018 road race, Andrew Vollmer, Laurent Gervais Riley Sheehan and recently crowned collegiate road race champion, Cade Bickmore.

The event is live streaming both the criterium and UCI road race. Saturday’s criterium will start at 6:30 p.m. EST and can be found at usacrits.tv. Monday’s road race will be streamed on winstonsalemcycling.com and begins at 2 p.m.
