Aevolo Cycling is excited to announce the addition of 18-year-old Aidan McNeil to the 2020 roster. Next season marks a new beginning for McNeil, as it’s the first time the San Jose, California native will compete in the U23 racing category.
A competitive swimmer and triathlete since the age of eight, McNeil found his passion to race road bikes exclusively seven years later. From there, the climbing and descending specialist focused his abilities to a third place at the UCI Junior Nations Cup Tour de DMZ in Korea this year. McNeil also took home first in the king of the mountain classification.
With his goals now set on 2020, McNeil hopes to expand his exposure to elite competition.
“I’m looking forward to bigger pro European races and racing the Tour of Utah,” McNeil said. “It will be my first year as an Under-23 and it will definitely be a big year of learning. I want to experience as much as I can this year so I know what to expect at bigger races in the future.”
Despite being relatively new to the sport, McNeil has quickly gained an international perspective after a trip to Sittard, Netherlands with the USA Cycling National Team, one of his favorite cycling experiences to date.
“At this point I hadn’t been racing for very long and I would say I wasn’t very experienced, but the trip made me experience Europe for the first time,” McNeil said. “I also realized, since I never had been outside of North America before this point, that bike racing could be an amazing way to explore the world and compete in the sport I truly love.”
